What is Startup Weekend uOttawa Edition?

Startup Weekend is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. Come share ideas, form teams, and launch startups.

We're excited to bring you the second Startup Weekend uOttawa! This exclusive edition of Startup Weekend is for current uOttawa students, and recent graduates. Our goal is to connect students across all faculties to encourage and promote entrepreneurship regardless of discipline of study. We look forward to seeing the different types of innovative ideas that can come to life when students branch out and connect with those around them with different skill sets and areas of expertise.

In an effort to make the event more accessible to students and alumni, Telfer School of Management has subsidized the tickets. In terms of format and timelines, the event will be very similar to the events in the past that we have put on. We hope to see you out there and welcome you to send any and all questions to ottawa@startupweekend.org.

Categories

While the purpose of a Start up Weekend is about the experience, we've added a bit more! We've put together a prize package (including $1,000 and 3 months of incubation space at Invest Ottawa) for the best team based on the Sunday pitch. In addition, we've created three individual categories that you can choose to compete in - each category comes with an additional $500 prize package. And yes, you can compete in multiple categories!

Internet of Things

While other technologies will have a significant impact in the world, the Internet of Things is poised to be the most revolutionary. The world will have 25 billion Internet-connected objects by 2020 — just a short four years away.

Syrian Refugees

Create a startup and develop a business model that revolves around providing assistance and care to the ongoing Syrian Refugee crisis. 12 million Syrians need humanitarian assistance!

Makerspace

The Makerspace is a student-run space for everyone to collaborate and build their dream projects for FREE! Design a startup that targets this platform.

Alternate

Brainstorm and pitch your own ideas to solve real world problems. Note: You will not be eligible for the $500 prize.

See what it's all about!
